About this tip log
Do I need an account?
No. The log is free to use with no account or signup.
Where are my entries saved?
In this browser, on the device you are using. They do not appear on another device unless you restore a backup there. Download a backup from Shifts before you clear browser data or change phones.
What does “tips to report” mean here?
In hand plus card tips, minus the tips you passed to others. IRS Publication 531 counts card tips as cash tips and says to report only the tips you receive and keep. Noncash tips and service charges are recorded apart from that figure.
Why does a 1 AM close-out count on the night before?
A shift that ends after midnight belongs to the night you worked. Close-outs before your day-end hour (4 AM unless you change it under Shifts) log on the previous date. You can always change the date under More.
When is the monthly tip statement due?
IRS Publication 531 says to give each employer your tips for a month by the 10th of the next month, or the next business day when the 10th falls on a weekend or legal holiday. Months under $20 from one job are not reported to that employer. The tape shows the next due date for each workplace.
Can I bring in an existing log?
Yes. Choose Import CSV on the Shifts page and match your file’s columns to the log’s fields. Exact duplicates are skipped, and imported entries stay marked as imported.
